a Crimson Affair

Northampton Artist, Rosy James shows the concluding paintings of her Crimson series at
the J Gallery in Moulton. 'a Crimson Affair' is a striking exhibition of intensely colourful paintings that narrate the story of an affair, taking the audience on a journey of love and loss.

The exhibition includes an accompanying video installation of the artist reciting selected poetry from the Crimson collection, and a specially choreographed dance piece by The Performance Company. Brilliantly combining visual and verbal communication, Rosy James uses colour as a visual metaphor in a series of diptychs that present a painted interpretation of a collection of autobiographical poems.

The paintings in 'a Crimson Affair' use subtle layering of vibrant, textured acrylic glazes to create a backdrop for evocative imagery and text. Crossing the borders between painting, poetry and dance, the work, ongoing since Rosy’s 2006 degree show for her Masters in Fine Art at The University of Northampton, has been widely praised for both quality and originality.

Rosy James said: “I was delighted with the positive reaction to 'a Crimson Affair' and by the encouragement to show the exhibition further. I am very pleased to be invited to show the final paintings in the series at J Gallery. 'a Crimson Affair' tells a universal story and explores deeply felt human emotions and I look forward to hearing what their audience thinks about my work. It is clear from the response so far to the first part of the series that the subject resonates with their own experiences. The notion that colour has a language and emotion of its own is an integral part of the making process for me and I hope to evoke the audience’s curiosity about this phenomenon”.

During the exhibition jgallery will also be selling high quality prints alongside the paintings.
